SousChef uses a cloud database to share users' recipes. The cloud contains all the recipes shared by SousChef's users. Recipes are shared by default but can be removed from the cloud at any time by unchecking . You can only control the sharing status for a recipe that you created and submitted to the cloud yourself (you are considered to be that recipe's "owner").

To keep track of what recipes you have submitted to the cloud, SousChef uses a username and the license key you received when you purchased SousChef. You may change your username at any time, however your license key is fixed and can not be changed. Your username is sent along with each recipe as it is shared with other SousChef users, however your license key is only communicated between your copy of SousChef and the server.

The cloud also keeps track of the overall rating of a recipe and the image used to represent it. anyone is allowed to add an image to a recipe if doesn't already have an image. However, once an image is added to a recipe, only that recipe's "owner" can change the recipe's online image.
